Historical Event on 6/4/1997
Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This became inoperable due to power bus anamoly since Oct. 4, 1997. It was launched by European launch vehicle, Ariane from Kourov in French Guyana.

7/14/1942	Britishers Quit India resolution was passed by Congress Working Committee. They demanded departure of British and agreed on passive resistance until India's independence. It was declared on 8th August, 1942 at August Kranti Maidan (Gowalia Tank).

8/4/2000	Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the last member of the British royal family to bear the title ''Empress of India'', celebrated her 100th birthday.
4/8/1973	India takes control over Sikkim after anti-government riots.
1/23/1978	The motto ""Shastra se Shakti"" (Strength though arms) in Hindi written in Devengiri script was approved by the President of India as the motto of the Army Ordnance Corps.The original corps motto of the Ordnance corps was ""Usa Tela Tananti"" found in the arms of the board of Ordnance. This was translated to mean ""To the thunder his arms"". The corps song titled ""Ayudh Corps Mahan"" was introduced for the first time in 4th re-union of the Army Ordnance Corps. The song is to be played or sung ""within unit lines only"", during purely Regimental functions.
7/12/1970	Major flood in Alaknanda river resulted in sweeping of buses and claimed 600 lives.
8/1/1672	The East India Company and the English law was for the first time intorduced in India. It was set up as directed by the Court of Judicature.
