7/16/1917Jagdishchandra Mathur, modern Hindi playwright, was born.
3/28/1956Tirumalai Ananthanpillai Sekhar, great Indian cricket pace-bowler (2 Tests 1982-83 little impact), was born in Madras.
6/11/1930A cyclonic storm blew a train off the rails near Himmatnagar, Gujarat, killing at least one person and injuring many more.
8/4/1935Government of India got the Royal Assent Act 1935.
6/9/1964Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation ""Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. He remained in this office till he died on January 11, 1966 at Taskent. In his cabinet, Indira Gandhi served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
