Bengaluru, March 31 (IANS) The police claimed to have busted a fake N95 mask making racket, arrested one person and seized 12,000 such masks, here on Tuesday.

"We have arrested Asgar under IPC section 420 and seized the place where the masks were being produced," Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain told IANS.

Asgar, 40, and his employer Amir Arshad, 40, were producing fake N95 masks at Banaswadi in the city. "They were using normal cloth to stitch masks and branding them as N95 with a non-existent company's name," Jain said.

According to the police, the duo didn't have the licence to produce masks. They were supplying masks to medical shops and individuals for around Rs 500 apiece, aiming to milk the coronavirus panic.

Arshad is absconding. The police are about to produce Asgar, Arshad's cashier, in the court, following his late night arrest.
