How to get an Texas
Driver's License
To obtain a new Texas drivers license, if you are over 18 follow the rules given
below

Go to
Texas Driver License office and apply in person.

Provide one or more documents that verify your
Identity,
name and date of birth.
·
Proof of Social Security Number
must be provided.
·
Application (PDF)
should
be completed,
photographed,
fingerprinted,
and provide your signature at the time of application.
·
The
required fee
should be paid by cash, money order or check only.
·
While appearing for the driving exam, provide the
current liability insurance, Texas vehicle registration, and inspection for the
vehicle.
When will you get
the Driver's License
After passing the test, you will receive the license with photo by
mail. Until then interim license will be issued which is valid for 60 days.
Moving from another
state
If you are moving to Texas from another state, notify DMV of an
address change within 10 days. In order to apply for Texas driver’s license
follow standard steps as in Texas driver’s license.
Renewing a Texas State Driver’s License
How to renew your
License
The eligibility requirements for online renewal are given below

Your license has not been expired in more than two years and is a Class C
license.
·
Last renewal should be completed in person.
·
Your age should be between 18 and 79.
·
There should not be any change in your vision, mental and physical health.
·
You should not have any outstanding tickets or warrants.
·
You should enter your
driver’s license and
Social Security card numbers.
·
Appropriate fee must be paid by
Visa, MasterCard, Discover Credit Card or American Express.
·
The fees might vary depending on age.
Your license will be
processed and renewed by DPS within 15-20 business days. For further details

Serving in the
military?
If you are a military service person, you should
·
Provide a copy of your military id card,
Proof of Social Security Number.
·
Fill in and sign the Driver License or Identification card application.
·
Fee
should be paid.
·
Copy of your Leave and Earnings Statement which shows Texas as your home of
record must be provided.

state ID card
To apply and get an ID card, you must

Go to
Texas Driver License office and apply in person.
·
Provide one or more
documents that verify your
Identity,
name, date of birth,
U.S. citizen
or have
Lawful Presence.
All documents must match.

Application (PDF)
should
be completed,
photographed,
fingerprinted,
and provide your signature at the time of application.
·
The
required fee
should be paid by cash, money order or check only.
The identification card will be issued with different number, if you
have a Texas driver license or commercial driver license.
Replacing a Lost Drivers License
To replace the lost or stolen license, you must

Go to
Texas Driver License office in person.
·
The Driver License Person verifies your identity by seeing you in person
and provides another license.
·
Proof of Social Security Number
and
proof of identity
must be provided.
·
Fill the form at the
driver license office
and pay the
fee to obtain duplicate
license.
·
The replaced document expires on
the same date as it was in original.
Before leaving the DMV office, check whether your address is correct and
your new driver license will be mailed to you. |
