Kapil Dev becomes the second highest wicket-taker in Test Cricket when he took his 400th wicket, that of Mark Taylor, in the Perth Test (New Zealand's Richard Hadlee with 431 wickets being the first).

5/19/1908Manik Bandopadhyay, modern Bengali novelist and story-writer, was born.
8/20/1828Brahmo Samaj, the first movement to initiate religio-social reforms, was founded by Ram Mohun Roy (1772-1833) in Calcutta. Influenced by Islam and Christianity, Roy denounced polytheism, idol worship, repudiated the Vedas, avataras, karma and reincarnation, caste and more. The first session of Adi Brahmo Samaj was held in the rented house by Kamal Bose of Chitpore Road in Jorasanko area in Calcutta.
1/15/1656Chhatrapati Shivaji conquered Javali state.
4/6/1930Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.
