Historical Event on 6/12/1990

Indian National Satellite (INSAT-1D) launched. This is an operational multi-purpose communication and meteorology satellite. It is still in service. It was launched by US Delta launch vehicle, Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.

10/1/1887Pandit Hridaynath Ajudhianath Kunzru, politician and social worker, was born at Agra.
5/18/1966Panchanan Maheshwari, great Indian scientist of botany, passed away. He studied the morphology, anatomy and embryology of some angiosperms, the class of plants which produce flowers. He discovered species of plants like ""Panchanania Jaipuriensis and Isoeted Panchananil."" He wrote two authoritative books, 'An Introduction to the Embryology of Angiosperms' & 'Recent Advances in Embryology on Angiosperms'. In 1951, he founded the International Society of plant Morphologists.
4/1/1963D.P. Kohli held office as the founder director of Central Bureau of Investigation (C.B.I.) from 1st April, 1963 (to 31st May, 1968). Earlier, he was Inspector-General of Police of the Special Police Establishment.
8/23/1994Arati Gupta (Saha) succumbed to an incurable jaundice. (29-9-99).
9/10/1943Satyendra Chandra Bardhan, Vakkom Abdul Khader, Fouja Singh, Boniface Pereira and Anandan were hanged on charges of conspiracy to ""wage war against the King"" under the Ememy Agents Ordinance (which was given retrospective effect) at Madras Jail. They sang Vande Mataram and shouted ""Bharat Mata Ki Jai"" when they were being hanged.
6/19/199013 Sri Lankan Tamils, including EPRLF Secretary General Padmanabha, were shot dead in Madras reportedly by LTTE men.
