Historical Event on 8/1/1905

Horse drawn tram cars were closed down in Bombay. This service was started on May 9, 1874 with 20 tram cars and 200 horses. The very first day of its run, the number of passengers carried was 451 and the amount earned was Rs. 85/- on the last day it had 1360 horses and carried 71,947 passengers and earned Rs.4,260/.

3/11/1886Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi became the first Indian lady doctor. She passed the MBBS degree from Philadelphia University of America.
9/12/1686Aurangzeb ended Adilshah's kingdom. The garrison lost heart and surrendered Sikandar who was sent to the state prison at Daulatabad. Bijapur was invested and the city opened its gates to the Mughals. Bijapur as an independent kingdom ceased to exist.
11/30/1999Prof. M. N. Sromovas, (83), well-known Sociologist in Bangalore, died.
2/18/1975Syed Nazir Ali, cricketer (2 Tests for India, 4 wickets), passed away.
3/29/1992Centenary celebrations of Tansa Dam held at Tansa. No of Seats of the Standing Committee and Education Committee increased from 20 to 27and 20 to 26 respectively and that of the B.E.S. & T. Committee from 12 to 17 (Vide Maharashtra Act XXI of 1992) (CIVIC).
9/21/1984National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources and National Institute of Animal Genetics were set up. These institutes were initially located in the campus of southern regional station of National Dairy Research Institute, Bangalore. They were then shifted to Karnal in July 1985.
8/22/1877Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy, great painter, philosopher, linguist, critic, art researcher in the East, was born at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
4/29/1639Delhi's Red fort construction commenced by laying the Foundation Stone by Shah Jahan. This fort was completed on May 13, 1646.
