7/12/1999India sets a deadline for intruders withdrawal from Kargil, announces suspension of air strikes.
4/9/1965Fighting breaks out in the Rann of Kutch between Indian and Pakistani troops. Pakistan attacked Indian borders, Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet, this was manned by the State Armed Police Batallions. In Kutch launched its 8th Infantry Division supported by two regiments of M47/48 Pattons. Operation 'Desert Hawk' was launched to draw away reserves from other vulnerable areas, and possibly to test India's resolve. The Indian Army did not rise to the bait.

12/24/1891Chandra Singh Garhwali, freedom fighter and revolutionary, was born in Masson, Patti Chauthan, Tehsil Thalisain, District Garhwal.

6/17/1996Balasahab Devras, Sarsangha Chalak of Rashtriya Sawyamsewak Sangh, died.
5/18/1966Panchanan Maheshwari, great Indian scientist of botany, passed away. He studied the morphology, anatomy and embryology of some angiosperms, the class of plants which produce flowers. He discovered species of plants like ""Panchanania Jaipuriensis and Isoeted Panchananil."" He wrote two authoritative books, 'An Introduction to the Embryology of Angiosperms' & 'Recent Advances in Embryology on Angiosperms'. In 1951, he founded the International Society of plant Morphologists.
